Advanced Vision Research has introduced TheraTears Lubricant Eye Drops to eye care professionals and pharmacies across Canada.  TheraTears was developed by Jeffrey P. Gilbard, MD in the laboratories and clinics of the Schepens Eye Research Institute.  In the summer of 1976, as a medical student, Dr. Gilbard met his first patient with dry eyes.  What began as a summer research project, turned into one of the most productive dry eye research programs to date.  Dr. Gilbard's 18-year research program resulted in the development of a patented formula that has become one of the most widely recommended products in the U.S. for dry eye relief.

"Dry eye irritation and disease is a result of loss of water from the tears on the eye surface," explained Jeffrey P. Gilbard, MD, founder and president of Advanced Vision Research.  "TheraTears helps put back the lost water so that it not only wets but also rehydrates dry eyes.  In addition, human tears are an electrolyte solution specially designed to protect the eye surface.  With TheraTears, we replicated and patented the electrolyte balance of the human tear film."

TheraTears will be available in Canada in boxes of 24 preservative-free single-use containers for sale from pharmacies and eye care specialists.  Further information can be obtained from the company at www.theratears.com.
